"What About Boards?"

Skate boarders face their own set of issues, as skateboarding is both considered a mode of transportation and a somewhat dangerous leisure activity. According to Geoffrey Quick, co-owner of Texas Skate Boards and Apparel, boarding has become more popular in San Marcos due to the amount of hills and the rich pool of young college skaters. However, the increase in boarding around town has led to a discrepancy on the specific laws, and whether or not skate boarding is considered a legitimate form of transportation or a “toy.”

"Scooters & Such"

Scooters can be an inexpensive way to travel, especially in college towns. But poor road conditions often damage scooters and motorcycles more than the typical automobile. And, many drivers consider scooter riders to be more reckless than other forms of transportation. This tension is one major issue that the City of San Marcos and Texas State University attempts to address.

"Road 101"

One common denominator in the Rubber vs. Road dispute is the need for increased education on all fronts. Most sides agreed that with greater communication and sharing of information, each rider and driver would benefit. Actions are currently underway to inform the public on each of these issues in order to make sure everyone’s needs are being met.
